The Durbar Series

Marlborough Military Models has designed and handcrafted a range of collector toy soldiers celebrating the Indian Delhi Durbar for collectors worldwide to enjoy.

The Durbar range is set in British Imperial India which reached the peak of pomp, spectacle and pageantry in the magnificence of the Durbars (official receptions) held in the late Victorian era. The most lavish of all was the Durbar organised by the then Viceroy, Lord Curzon, to celebrate the coronation of Edward V11. The Durbar began in Delhi on 29th December 1902 and lasted for ten full days into the New Year. More than one million people lined the streets of Delhi on New Years Day, 1903, shouting and jostling for the sight of the opulent precession of marajahars, ambassadors, sheikhs and government officials who led grand state entry to the Durbar arena. It was a sight worth seeing – painted and tasselled elephants, gilded howdahs, sleek horses and rich carriages, soldiers, bands and hundreds of functionaries – all paraded the streets that New Year.

Marlborough Military Models have captured the procession through the extensive Durbar range, which is made of individual sets that can be pieced together to create a unique procession for the individual toy soldier collector. Please enjoy browsing the Durbar section of the website as not only will you be able to see the Durbar range in full but it will hopefully give you a better understanding of the pomp and spectacle of the 1902 procession.

Please note that there is no VAT payable on any models although postage costs may be added where applicable.
